The Velvet Underground

In my opinion The Velvet Underground are one of the most  influential  bands of all time. This classic New York, urban cultured  band began to peak in the late sixties/seventies, with their first two ground breaking albums ‘The Velvet Underground & Nico’ and ‘Loaded’, and have remained popular ever since.

Such raw and original sounds was the root to the inspiration of other ranges of genres such as  Proto-Punk and rock bands. The early blossomed, yet vastly successful Velvet underground surprisingly influences a whole mass of genres, bands and artists including:

  • The Sex Pistols
  • David Bowie
  • Nirvana
  • Talking Heads
  • Sonic Youth
  • R.E.M
  • Morrissey
  • Joy Division

such bands inspired by the velvet underground continued to blossom and inspire other bands.

The Velvet underground is a band hard to dislike. With the idolised Lou Reed as their lead singer, early art work from the lead figure in visual art movement Andy Warhol, and the stylish Nico and other admired members, created such popularity, and have maintained their brilliance to this day.

Our top 5 songs:

  1. Sweet Jane
  2. Sunday Morning
  3. Pale Blue eyes
  4. I found a reason
  5. Rock & Roll
